Diablo Valley College is seeking a full-time tenure track instructor in Dental Hygiene. The successful applicant will be well qualified to teach all aspects of the curriculum with an emphasis in first year coordination. The applicant will be expected to contribute to the goals and objectives of the Dental Hygiene Program as well as maintain the educational standards established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association. Assistant Professor-Dental Hygiene Program

The University of the Pacific Arthur A Dugoni has a unique accelerated baccalaureate Dental Hygiene program, 18 months in length. Beginning January 1, 2017, the dental hygiene program will move to our San Francisco campus, joining our DDS, International Dental Studies, and specialty programs. We believe this move will provide strong opportunities for interprofessional learning and co-therapy. Faculty will have instructional design support, scholarship and continuing education opportunities, and numerous service opportunities. Appointment will be in the Department of Periodontology and will report to the Director of the Dental Hygiene Program.

The position is a full-time, 4-day per week, tenure-track position. Responsibilities will include didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical teaching in all aspects of the School of Dental Hygiene programs. Additional expectations include: Student advising and counseling, participation in collaborative research, faculty committees, and administrative duties.

Key responsibilities include: First year clinic coordinator – overseeing didactic and pre-clinical curriculum developing basic periodontal instrumentation and clinical skills and acting as advisor to the Student American & California Dental Hygienists’ Association.

Possess current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support Certification.

Continuing education demonstrating current knowledge of and competency in dental hygiene concepts and clinical practice; college or continuing education courses demonstrating background in educational methodologies theory and practice.

Desirable Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Five years experience as a licensed dental hygienist with experience in the use of local anesthesia and non-surgical periodontal therapy.

Knowledge of educational theory and practice, e.g. curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation, outcomes assessment and case based learning.

Currently working and/or teaching in dental hygiene.

Knowledge of current California Dental Practice Act/Infection Control Regulations and awareness of program accreditation.

Bilingual experience.

Experience with research methodology and application, professional writing, and public speaking.

Effective oral and written communication skills.
