Pam Hughes Scholarship Criteria

Dear CDHEA Members,

Now that our Annual Meeting has been rescheduled for September 30th-October 2nd, we must adjust the timeline for the Pam Hughes Scholarship to ensure there are enough funds generated to continue this wonderful opportunity to acknowledge our students.

Every penny graciously donated towards the Pam Hughes Scholarship goes directly to our student nominees. The bulk of these funds come from our annual Raffle, which is supplied by generous donations from our participating schools and vendors. Additional support from individual members donating via our CE Zoom platform round out our entire scholarship fund.

Because we were unable to hold the raffle last year, and because of our new meeting dates, the Executive Board has concluded that there will not be sufficient funds to provide a monetary award to the Class of 2022 nominees.

What to do about the Class of 2022?

The Board would like to acknowledge this group of students “hanging in there” through so many Pandemic-related challenges, so we ask that you still submit the names of those students you were already considering via email to CDHEA Vice President Mariah Bonner at: BonnerMM@laccd.edu by January 30th, 2022. The Board will meet in the next few weeks to discuss alternative options for acknowledging this year’s outstanding nominees, and send out an update.

What we see for the Class of 2023:

Rest assured, the Pam Hughes Scholarship will continue! Your donations thus far will be added to monies collected at this year's raffle on October 2nd, 2022 - the last day of our rescheduled Meeting.

In August, we will send an email asking you to nominate a student from your class of 2023 by the end of our In-Person Meeting, and monetary awards will once again be distributed in the Spring of 2023.

On behalf of the CDHEA Executive Board, we thank you for your patience as we navigate the twists and turns of our new circumstances. Your participation, enthusiasm, and dedication to supporting the next generation of hygienists inspire us all!

Be well, and please feel free to email me with any questions,

Sincerely,

Mariah Bonner, RDH, MSDH
